1、Treatment methods of sludge：
Steady treatment: biological method, chemical method
Dewatering treatment: thickening, dewatering, drying
Final treatment: comprehensive treatment, land fill disposal
Mixture of major suspended solid with organic matter and water—mud
Mixture of major suspended solid with inorganic matter and water—sludge
2、sort of sludge according to treating method：
Element, character and quantity are decided by wastewater resource and wastewater treatment process.
（1）Primary settling tank sludge It comes from primary settling tank and has large quantity of mineral composition.
（2）Humus sludge Biomembrance processed sludge.
（3）Excess sludge Secondary sludge from activated Sludge Treatment.
（4）Digested sludge ripening sludge from anaerobic treatment after biological treatment.
（5）Chemical sludge sludge from coagulation, air bearing and chemical precipitation
3、Sludge sorts according to resource：
Sludge is solid precipitate produced during treatment process of water and wastewater.
Because character of sludge is different, it is essential to sort them. And the treatment method is also different. According to their resource, they can be divided into the following kinds：
－ Civil sludge or call it sewage sludge. This kind of sludge is mainly from sewage factory which has large quantity. Sludge from water works also belong to this kind.
－ Pipe network sludge. It comes from discharge gathering system.
－ River and lake sludge. It comes from rivers and lakes.
－ Industrial sludge. It comes from industrial production which is mixture of water, oil, chemical matter and organic matter.
If it is not indicated specially, sludge always means civil sludge.
4、character of industrial sludge：
There’re many different industrial sludge according to its resource. Their differences are viscosity, hydroscopic property, pollutant character, oil ratio, water ratio, organic matter ratio and inorganic matter ratio.
Compared with civil sludge, it has higher oil ratio, inorganic matter ratio, and stronger viscosity. Some times, it is very hard to treat.
Sludge comes from chemical and medical industry must be treated carefully, because its pollution level is very high. Sludge from oil, metallurgy, alutation, ferment, food and slaughtering industrial should be treated separated and change waste into resource.
5、Water removing from sludge method in thickening treatment.
Sludge water can be separated into: free water, flocculent water, capillary water and particle water.
（1）Free water It exists among the flocculent sludge, and can be separated by gravity settling.
（2）Flocculent water It exists inside the flocculent sludge. It can’t be separated by gravity settling. Outward press is needed to change flocculent sludge structure. In this way, it can be separated.
（3）Capillary water It exist in the capillary pipe formed by particle. Heavy pressure is essential to separate it out.
（4）Particle water It’s bound water in particle. It only can be separated out by changing sludge’s chemical structure.
6、Definition of sludge dewatering and drying:
Reduce water ratio of sludge to 80～85% below. This is called dewatering.
Reduce water ratio of dewatered sludge to 50～65% below. This is called drying. |
